Jaap Zevenbergen holds Master degrees in both Geodetic Engineering and Law, and is professor of Land Administration and Management at the University of Twente, with the ITC faculty. He teaches and supervises MSc and PhD students in land administration from all over the world, particularly from Africa and Southeast Asia. He is director of the School for Land Administration Studies, a joint capacity development program of the Netherlands Kadaster and ITC. He represents the international training and research institutions on the International Advisory Board of the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN), facilitated by UN Habitat, and also sits on their Advisory Committee on the Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM). As a member of the Netherlands Centre for Geodesy and Geoinformatics (NCG) he sits on the strategic platform of the national spatial data project Geo Together.
