In all of our work, projects, and partnerships, Cadasta aims to support and advocate for secure land and resource rights and improved opportunities for vulnerable households and communities.

At the community and subnational levels, Cadasta empowers communities to use the data collected and stored in the Cadasta Platform to advocate for the recognition of their land rights. The data are also used to bolster efforts seeking improved access to services and infrastructure, inclusion of marginalized populations, including women, and acceptance of alternative datasets by authorities.

At the national level, Cadasta advocates for the broader adoption of bottom-up, community-driven land documentation approaches and integration of vulnerable communities in land administration services.

At the international level, Cadasta supports and advocates for secure land and resource rights by working with international and multilateral organizations, international coalitions working to defend and advance rights for indigenous peoples, communities, and women, and with donor organizations.

Throughout all of our projects and partnerships, Cadasta works to strengthen women’s land and resource rights. Even in the absence of government efforts, organizations and communities can use Cadasta’s suite of digital tools to document women’s use of and claims to land as a step toward empowerment and formalization.

Her Land Her Story

Cadasta organized and launched the Her Land, Her Story Campaign to raise awareness of women’s land rights and highlight the role women play in land administration. The campaign was launched in partnership with Land Portal, Landesa, Building Resources Across Communities (BRAC), Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI), International Land Coalition, Natural Resource Management Consultants (NRMC), OpenStreetMap Zambia, Oxfam, Resource Equity, Solid Ground, and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and featured land rights stories of 27 real women from around the world.

Got Land Rights?

Cadasta partnered with Habitat for Humanity’s Solid Ground campaign to develop and launch an interactive Got Land Rights Survey. The survey is designed to help people relate to the issue of land rights in a more personal way by connecting the dots between land rights and women’s economic empowerment, nutrition, conservation, poverty alleviation, economic development, and security. Check out the survey to find out how secure your land rights are!
