Dear Friends of Cadasta,
As 2019 draws to a close, we at Cadasta are celebrating our progress this year and thinking creatively about what is coming in 2020.
Cadasta has accomplished significant milestones, including an exciting relaunch of our platform and strategy and an expansion of activities on the ground. We have grown our team from 13 to 20 people to better serve our expanding networks and partners as well as expanded our Cadasta trainer network around the world.
We are making great progress! We now have 1.7 million people from 815 communities in 17 countries documented on the Cadasta Platform, leading to over 71,000 documents issued.
We launched a new Land Rights Challenge Grant Fund in November. The first challenge is the Data Accelerator Grants. These grants will help current and new partners with equipment, logistics, and data collection costs.
Our broader hope for the Fund is to bring in new partners, support a wide range of innovative initiatives to advance land and resource rights, and to provide a mechanism for joint challenges with strategic partners and donors. Joint challenges can be launched to support community-led land rights through different lenses—for example, gender, youth, urban, rural, agriculture, or forest rights, to name a few. Got a good idea for a challenge? We welcome collaborations on joint, co-funded challenges.
To ramp up our on-site training and technical assistance, we held our first Train-the-Trainer workshop for Cadasta Regional Trainers in Washington, D.C. in November. Our Regional Trainers hail from Ghana, Haiti, Mozambique, Bolivia, France, and India, and bring a wealth of skills and knowledge in land, GIS, and community mapping.
Cadasta is being featured around the world as a mover and shaker in the land rights space! We work globally to advocate for more equitable, fit-for-purpose land administration that includes all people. Cadasta was featured in the following events and activities:
As we look forward to 2020, we are eager to share our results and expand our partnerships to meet our goal of documenting and advancing the rights of 8 million people. Will you help us? Every single contribution helps! Donate here to change lives by helping get vulnerable communities on the map!
Wishing you a peaceful and productive holiday season,
Amy Coughenour Betancourt
