Building Inclusive and Transparent Land Systems
Cadasta helps governments, civil society, and communities design and strengthen land governance systems that are inclusive, transparent, and effective. Our advisory work connects global best practices with local priorities, always centering the people closest to the land.
From shaping national reform strategies to co-developing community data platforms, our experts bring decades of experience in land administration, GIS, and participatory approaches to every engagement.
We evaluate national and subnational land administration and cadastral systems to identify gaps and opportunities. Our assessments provide actionable policy, legal, and technical recommendations that balance international standards and community priorities.
In Malawi, Cadasta partnered with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on the Land Productivity Project as part of the groundwork for the MCA Malawi II Compact. Through this initiative, we analyzed the true cost of land administration services, explored how those costs could evolve under different policy pathways, and modeled potential revenue scenarios for the Ministry of Lands. Together, this work delivered practical, forward-looking insights—helping chart a more sustainable financial future for land administration in Malawi.
In Togo, Cadasta supported the MCC-funded Land Reform to Accelerate Agricultural Productivity (LRAP) project by helping formalize land rights for smallholder farmers and piloting gender-inclusive tenure models. By simplifying documentation processes, this work made land rights more accessible—especially for women—while laying the foundation for more productive and equitable agricultural systems.
We design and optimize digital systems for land governance—from mobile data collection to interoperable GIS platforms and Land Information Systems—ensuring tools are cost-effective, scalable, and user-friendly.
We strengthen institutions and leaders through tailored training, “train-the-trainer” models, and long-term mentoring, always centering equity, gender inclusion, and climate resilience.
Every engagement is grounded in partnership and guided by three principles:
Information is governed and owned by the people who generate it.
Tools and strategies adapted to local realities.
Prioritizing women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples in reforms and systems change.
