Indigenous Land Rights & Forest Protection

Project with Cadasta

SPFA and Cadasta are mapping in the DRC to secure customary rights, resolve conflicts, and strengthen climate resilience.
Indigenous Pygmy and local communities in Bikoro. With Cadasta’s geospatial platform and tailored training, SPFA is producing real-time land and forest data that can feed into the DRC’s National Land Information System. The project is closely coordinated with CONAREF, the national land reform commission, ensuring that community-generated data directly informs government policy. Launched in 2024, the initiative is helping to resolve boundary land conflicts, protect forests, and build long-term climate and social stability. By integrating customary rights into national reform, this partnership demonstrates how locally-led, technology-enabled approaches can transform land governance and advance equity.
