Introducing the Global Impact Dashboard 2.0!

Cadasta is pleased to announce the release of our new Global Impact Dashboard (GID). We designed the GID with our partners’ needs in mind and with the aim of improving our ability to scale the management, storage, and sharing of land and resource rights data collected using Cadasta’s Platform of tools.

Following the release of our original Global Impact Dashboard in the spring of 2019, we recognized the need to improve the dashboard’s look and functionality. We needed to showcase and visualize the data our partners have collected as well as find a better way to manage and automate updating the data feeding into the dashboard to accommodate a growing list of Cadasta partners. To do so, we made a strategic decision to switch from developing software from a largely open source set of tools to a commercially available off-the-shelf (COTS) solution approach. For Cadasta, this change means that we now focus our efforts on helping partners meet their technology needs by using COTS tools. This change in focus has also allowed us to better focus on meeting the data storage and reporting needs of our partners while also improving our ability to update the data with less effort.

The new dashboard was designed and implemented using Esri technology and incorporates data from Cadasta’s internal customer relationship management (CRM) system, Insightly. The data published on the GID includes a summary and disaggregated historical data from all of Cadasta’s projects and can be used in various Esri applications such as web maps, dashboards, and web apps.

The Global Impact Dashboard consists of several dashboards which are all stored inside of a larger dashboard. This design allows us to make changes to individual project dashboards without having to re-publish a new dashboard every time. The GID also includes a global map of countries where Cadasta operates. By clicking on a specific country in the map, you can view a list of projects in that particular country. Project names and details are shown based on the privacy level defined by the partner for that project. Projects with low privacy levels (0 and 1) do not show many details, as requested by our partners.

The data on the GID can be viewed in the following ways:

General Statistics:

The General Statistics tab shows the most frequently asked metrics such as number of households, number of people, number of hectares, and number parcels documented on the Cadasta Platform.

Land and Demographics:

The Land and Demographics tab shows additional metrics such as distribution of age for head of household and current land tenure status.

Country-level Statistics:

The Country-level Statistics tab displays the metrics for projects in a particular country. This option can be useful, for example, if you want to learn how each country differs in terms of land tenure status.

Project Type Statistics:

The Project Type tab allows the user to review metrics for projects of a specific use case. This feature can be used, for example, when reviewing land tenure by project types (Agriculture, Urban, Women’s Land Rights, etc.).

Every dashboard shows the most updated data but historical data can also be shown by selecting a different month and year from a drop-down menu in the upper right corner. Currently, we have data going back to March 2020 but will add in the historical data by the end of 2020.

In addition to exploring the data on the GID, we encourage our partners to embed their specific project dashboards on their websites by using their Insightly project number and the project dashboard URL. Cadasta’s technology team is happy to assist partners interested in embedding their dashboard on their website.

We continue to improve the Global Impact Dashboard by adding new metrics on impact data, perception of tenure security, and other data points that are important for partners and for gaining a better understanding of land and property rights globally.

If you have questions or ideas for additional metrics, please let us know. We are open to your ideas and feedback as we work to make the Global Impact Dashboard more comprehensive, dynamic, and useful.
