We are proud to share that Albert H. Anoubon Momo, Cadasta’s Board Chair, has been honored with the prestigious 2024 World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC) DEI Trailblazer Award for Individual Champion. This award recognizes his exceptional leadership and commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the geospatial industry.
His dedication to DEI has been evident throughout his career. As the former Chair of the Trimble Foundation, he prioritized DEI as a core pillar, overseeing donations to organizations worldwide that promote diversity and inclusive practices, and initiating the Dr. Gladys West Scholarship Program that provides scholarships to underrepresented students. His role as the first Chair of the WGIC DEI Committee further amplified his impact, where he spearheaded initiatives and led discussions on DEI themes at major industry events.
Commenting on his award, Albert said, “I am deeply honored to be recognized by WGIC. DEI has always been at the heart of my work because an inclusive industry is a stronger, more innovative one. I believe we all share the responsibility to create a world where every voice is heard, valued, and included. This belief is at the core of my involvement with Cadasta. Bringing geospatial tools to those that would not otherwise have access is a critical, yet often overlooked, component of sustainable development.”
In addition to this recent honor, Albert achieved another significant recognition earlier this year. In May 2024, he was recognized at the Geospatial World Leadership Awards during the Geospatial World Forum 2024. This accolade celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the geospatial industry.
Albert has been an active member of Cadasta’s Board of Directors since June 2022 and was elected as Board Chair in December 2022. In addition to his Board participation, he has attended two in-person staff retreats and contributed significantly to the organization’s mission.
“Albert’s leadership in DEI has set a high standard in the geospatial industry,” said Amy Coughenour Betancourt, CEO of Cadasta Foundation. “His deep commitment to diversity and equity aligns perfectly with Cadasta’s mission to support marginalized communities with geospatial tools and training. This recognition as a DEI Trailblazer is fully earned, and we are fortunate to have him on our Board.”
The World Geospatial Industry Council is a non-profit trade association that represents the geospatial industry. WGIC works to enhance the role of the geospatial industry and strengthen its contribution to the global economy, promote collaboration and knowledge sharing, and advocate for policies that support the geospatial industry.
Congratulations to Albert Momo on this well-deserved recognition! His tireless advocacy for inclusive policies has left a lasting impact on the geospatial industry, inspiring others to prioritize DEI in their work.
