Periods of change often present the greatest opportunity for organizations to sharpen their focus. For Cadasta, the recent week-long leadership strategy workshop marked an important step in defining how the organization will continue to advance equitable land and resource rights while expanding the ways it delivers value to partners around the world.
Bringing together Cadasta’s senior leadership team, the workshop centered on one fundamental question: how can the organization build on a decade of experience while positioning itself for the future alongside our recently announced partner, Corus International? To guide our discussion, we were pleased to have Tosca Bruno-van Vijfeijken of Five Oaks Consulting, an expert in non-profit organizational effectiveness, and team and change management.
With a look back at what worked and what didn’t, the discussion focused on the changing realities of international development and the opportunities emerging from Cadasta’s new place within the Corus family. Throughout the week, leaders explored how evolving donor priorities, new partnerships, advances in technology, and increasing demand for integrated development solutions are reshaping the landscape.
Adding Land to Place
One theme remained consistent in every conversation: Cadasta’s core strengths continue to matter. The organization’s expertise in geospatial technology, participatory mapping, data systems, training and support services, and locally driven approaches remains a powerful foundation for helping communities, governments, and partners make better decisions about land and natural resources.
During the week, Cadasta’s leadership spent two days meeting with senior leaders from across Corus International. Together the teams explored the shared values, mission, and complementary strengths that unite the organizations while discussing how Cadasta’s expertise can contribute to Corus’ broader development portfolio. The conversations highlighted a strong cultural alignment, a shared commitment to community-centered development, and an enthusiasm for collaboration that extended well beyond the meeting room. The joint sessions ended with a welcome reception, celebrating Cadasta’s newest chapter as part of the Corus family and reinforcing the spirit of partnership that will guide the work ahead.
The Corus integration creates new opportunities to apply those strengths in broader ways. By combining its technical expertise with Corus’ global development portfolio, Cadasta is positioned to contribute to more integrated approaches across agriculture, livelihoods, climate resilience, and other development priorities where place-based data can strengthen outcomes.
Building Momentum
The conversations reflected more than strategic planning; they underscored a growing sense of momentum. Across the organization, teams are already working more closely with Corus colleagues to identify opportunities, share expertise, and build stronger pathways for collaboration. That momentum is creating new possibilities while reinforcing Cadasta’s role as a trusted technical partner within the global development community.
As Cadasta enters its next chapter, its mission remains clear: helping people and communities strengthen their relationship with the land and resources they depend on. What is changing is the scale of opportunity to bring that expertise into new contexts, reach new partners, and contribute to more resilient and sustainable development.
The future will require adaptability, collaboration, and continued innovation. Cadasta is embracing all three, building on ten years of experience while preparing for even greater impact in the years ahead.
