Espaço Feminista partnered with local authorities to secure women’s land rights in Bonito, documenting 1,400+ families and ensuring 85% of titles include women’s names.
In Bonito, Pernambuco, many families—particularly women—lived for decades without secure land rights. Espaço Feminista took the lead in mapping neighborhoods, identifying tenure insecurity, and partnering with the municipality and local land registry to launch a large-scale regularization effort.
With mobile tools and Cadasta’s digital platform, the team collected household data and streamlined titling processes. As a result, over 1,400 families gained legal ownership. Notably, 50% of titles were issued directly to women and 35% were jointly titled, ensuring that 85% of all titles now include women’s names. This project demonstrates how grassroots women’s organizations can drive gender equity and legal recognition through technology and strong local partnerships.
