WASHINGTON, D.C. April 2nd, 2020—Cadasta Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Steven Weir as a new Director of the Board. Steven comes to Cadasta’s board with 30 years of experience working as a licensed architect, real estate developer, and international housing expert at Habitat for Humanity.
“We are thrilled to welcome Steven to the Cadasta Board,” said Cadasta Interim Board Chair Christopher Vincent, “Having worked with Steven for many years, I am certain his global leadership experience will benefit Cadasta as we scale our projects and impact worldwide.”
Prior to joining Habitat for Humanity’s leadership team, Steven spent 16 years in private practice, the majority of that time with a San Francisco-based firm working through the Pacific Rim in architecture and real estate development.
In his current role at Habitat for Humanity, Stevens serves as the Vice President of Housing Innovation where he provides strategic support to global initiatives, integrating programmatic innovations and partnership opportunities. Previously, Steven served as the Vice President of Global Program Development and Support, Vice President of Asia and the Pacific, and Country Director at Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka.
Commenting on Steven’s appointment, Cadasta’s Chief Executive Officer Amy Coughenour Betancourt said, “Not only is Steven an internationally recognized leader in housing and land rights, he is deeply committed to social and economic justice for the communities that Cadasta serves.”
Steven has degrees in Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design. He has been published by Ethics in Action on the ethical challenges of international human rights NGOS; Cambridge University Press on housing issues; and UN HABITAT on housing policy, among others. In addition to serving on Cadasta’s Board, Steven is also on the board of Cities Alliance, Georgia Tech School of City and Regional Planning, Urban Catalyst Lab, and local churches in the US and Asia.
Steven joins eight elected Board members and one observer. Together they provide strategic and policy direction to Cadasta as it works to advance global land and resource rights to build stronger, more sustainable communities.
