Washington, D.C., February 14, 2025— Cadasta is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation (Svenska Postkodlotteriets Stiftelse) to support community-led land and resource mapping efforts through the Community Mapping for Land and Climate Project. This partnership will equip Indigenous Peoples and local communities with the tools and training necessary to document and protect their lands, strengthen tenure security, and promote environmental conservation.
Spanning from January 2025 to June 2026, the Community Mapping for Land and Climate Project will focus on mapping and demarcating over 32,600 hectares of community-held land through Cadasta’s partnerships with Fundapaz in Argentina, the Solidarity for the Promotion of Indigenous Women (SPFA) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Cool Earth in Papua New Guinea. By leveraging Cadasta’s geospatial technology training expertise, and community partnerships, the initiative will strengthen land tenure security while enhancing climate resilience through community-led management and conservation.
“We are excited to partner with the Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation to scale land tenure security as a core strategy for climate action,” said Amy Coughenour Betancourt, President and CEO of Cadasta Foundation. “With secure land rights, Indigenous and local communities can better manage forests, protect biodiversity, and build long-term resilience against climate change.”
Through this initiative, Cadasta and its partners will support local communities with essential digital tools, training, and data-driven decision-making support. This work will help communities assert their land rights, engage with policymakers, and contribute to sustainable land use planning that protects ecosystems and livelihoods for future generations.
Cadasta and the Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation share a commitment to social justice, environmental sustainability, and community-driven solutions. By securing land rights, this partnership ensures that vulnerable communities have the legal recognition needed to protect their land, strengthen their livelihoods, and contribute to global climate goals.
