10 Things We Learned About our New GIS Business Analyst Marco Taboada

Jan 13 — 2022

Cadasta welcomed Marco Taboada to our team as a GIS Business Analyst in December 2021. Marco has more than 18 years of experience analyzing, designing, and developing land administration solutions for governments and communities. In his new role at Cadasta, he will interpret and document client needs, deliver GIS solutions to partners, analyze and report data trends, and apply those data insights to improve project processes.

There is a lot we want to know about Marco, so we sat down and asked him a few questions!

Here is what we learned:

1. Marco is a software engineer by training with an Associate’s Degrees in Web Development and Network and Telecommunications. He is currently studying for his Project Management Professional Certification.

2. Marco views GIS as an exciting and rapidly changing technology area where you can combine other technologies such as video, mobile applications, and desktop/web development to make a difference in our world by enabling people to make key decisions about human health, habitat, climate change, water quality and availability, renewable energy and much more.

3. Marco previously worked as developer at Harris Computers, Thomson Reuters, and on various international land administration projects in Bolivia, Bahamas, United States, Nicaragua, Angola, Afghanistan, and Nigeria.

4. Marco loves spending time with his wife, 16 year old son, 11 year old daughter. He is also a big fan of barbecuing outside with his family and friends!

5. He loves bicycling, watching movies, and staying healthy but he hates liars and onions.

6. Marco is based in Bolivia. His favorite things about living in Bolivia include the diversity of people, the mountains, the beautiful weather, the ballets, biking opportunities, the food and, of course, his family!

7. Speaking of biking, he participated in 140 KM bike race across the world’s largest salt flat at 3.663 meters above sea level – Called the  “Uyuni Challenge.”  And yes, it was as difficult as it sounds! But very beautiful and rewarding.

8. He has a five-star taste in movies; some of his favorites include Back to The Future, Catch Me if You Can and the Marvel Movies.

9. Marco’s role at Cadasta combines business analysis and project management. He is most excited to contribute and expand his knowledge in land administration and apply it to diverse cultures and projects.

10. Marco’s dream job would be the job he has now (smart answer!)

Much like Cadasta, Marco is a mission-driven person who aims to improve the quality of life of the communities and towns he works with. Most importantly, his role in the GIS sector allows him to implement projects that help the people build a better life!
