Cadasta is excited to receive Esri’s Special Achievement in GIS Award for 2021. This award is given to Esri users around the world to recognize outstanding work with GIS technology. Cadasta was chosen for this high distinction from more than 300,000 organizations working to improve our world through GIS. Cadasta is extremely honored to accept this award on behalf of our team and 100+ partners around the world who are using GIS to advance land and resource rights, especially amidst the unprecedented challenges of the COVID 19 pandemic.
In his award announcement at this week’s Esri User Conference, Jack Dangermond, CEO of Esri stated, “these organizations distinguished themselves by really doing fantastic things. They organized all the data. They built the right applications. They organized the right institutional settings for their work. I want to send a warm message to all of you in these organizations, how very proud I am of your work but also you should feel proud and special for doing the kinds of things you’re doing.”
Commenting on the award, Cadasta CEO Amy Coughenour Betancourt said, “Receiving this prestigious award is tremendous validation from the GIS community that Cadasta’s work matters for millions of people who deserve secure land tenure. I couldn’t be more proud of our team and our partners’ efforts on the ground. We are profoundly grateful to Esri for this special recognition.”
Land rights are the foundation of stability and prosperity as they sit at the intersection of community development, economic advancement, gender equality, sustainable food systems and more. Yet, an estimated 70 percent of the land in the developing world is undocumented. Cadasta is the leading provider of technical tools and services to support the documentation of land and resource rights to build stronger, more sustainable communities.
Cadasta develops and collaborates with partners around the world to use innovative digital tools and technology to efficiently document, analyze, store and share critical land and resource rights data. Since its founding in 2015, Cadasta has documented more than 5 million people in 5 years, supporting more than 100 partners in 36 countries across 1,500 communities to advance land and resource rights.
